Trade is the voluntary exchange of goods, services, or both. Trade is also called commerce or transaction. A mechanism that allows trade is called a market. The original form of trade was barter, the direct exchange of goods and services. Later one side of the barter were the metals, precious metals (poles, coins), bill, paper money. Modern traders instead generally negotiate through a medium of exchange, such as money. As a result, buying can be separated from selling, or earning. The invention of money (and later credit, paper money and non-physical money) greatly simplified and promoted trade. Trade between two traders is called bilateral trade, while trade between more than two traders is called multilateral trade.

Trader in Germany, 16th century

Trade exists for man due to specialization and division of labor, most people concentrate on a small aspect of production, trading for other products. Trade exists between regions because different regions have a comparative advantage in the production of some tradable commodity, or because different regions' size allows for the benefits of mass production. As such, trade at market prices between locations benefits both locations.

San Juan de Dios Market in Guadalajara, Jalisco

Trading can also refer to the action performed by traders and other market agents in the financial markets.

What are the laws on buying a car from someone that says buying as is?
Q. I bought a car from abuy here pay here lot,and it was a buy as is deal. I want to know if there are any laws to protect me if I find something wrong with it within 30 days of buying it?

A. The lemon law is for new cars. There is no 3 day, 7 day or 10 minute right of rescission. AS IS means if the car breaks in half as you are driving it out of the dealership, you own both halves.

What's the difference between buying electronics from Best Buy and directly from the company that makes it?
Q. I'm planning on reserving an iPhone 4 tomorrow and I found that Best Buy is also allowing people to reserve the iPhone as well. I've always wondered why the prices at Best Buy are less than buying directly from the company and if there's any difference in the product you receive. :) Let me know your opinion please.

A. There is no difference in quality for a given brand and model from different retailers. The manufacturer will often sell an item at full list price and allow their dealerships to set their own prices at a profit margin that they are comfortable with. A manufacturer wouldn't have a dealership network for long if they competed against their dealers by undercutting them. When I owned a manufacturing business my dealer pricing was typically 30-50% below list depending on the item and volume. Margins on consumer electronics tend to be somewhat less. Margins on accessories tend to be more. Don

Buying a violin from a store or the internet?
Q. Recently, I went to a music store that sells violins. After finding one, I went online later and saw that the same violin online costs 200-500 dollars less (on many sites). Is it just because the store included a case and bow? What's the difference with buying one from the store or from the internet? Which is better? I am not a beginner violinist

A. If you are dealing with a reputable online dealer that has a good return policy (100% satisfaction guaranteed) then there is absolutely no reason to avoid shopping online. If you already know the make and model of the violin you want, and it is exactly the same one, print out the page and take it to the free standing store. They are going to give you a whole line about the expense of stocking and setting instruments up before they leave the store, but most online dealers do that as well. Next they will tell you that it costs money to keep the store open and if you don't buy the instruments from them, they won't be there when you need strings and rosin and sheet music. Hit them back with "From the price of your strings, rosin and music,… [cont.]
