Jewellery (pronounced /ˈdʒuːəlri/ or /ˈdʒuːələri/) or jewelry (see American and British English spelling differences) signifies items of personal adornment, such as necklaces, rings, brooches, earrings and bracelets. Jewellery may be made from any material, such as gemstones, precious metals or shells, besides other materials, depending on cultural differences and availability of materials. Jewellery may be appreciated because of geometric or other patterns, or meaningful symbols. (Items such as belts and handbags etc. are considered to be accessories rather than jewellery.) The word jewellery is derived from the word jewel, which was Anglicised from the Old French "jouel" circa the 13th century. Further tracing leads back to the Latin word "jocale", meaning plaything. Jewellery is one of the oldest forms of body adornment; recently found 100,000 year-old beads made from Nassarius shells, are thought to be the oldest known jewellery. Jewellery is sometimes seen as wealth storage or functionally as holding a garment or hair together. It has from very early times also been regarded as a form of personal adornment. The first pieces of jewellery were made from natural materials, such as bone, animal teeth, shell, wood and carved stone. More exotic jewellery was probably made for wealthy people or as indications of social status. In some cases people were buried with their jewellery. Jewellery has been made to adorn nearly every body part, from hairpins to toe rings and many more types of jewellery. While high-quality jewellery is made with gemstones and precious metals, such as silver or gold, there is also a growing demand for art jewellery where design and creativity is prized above material value. In addition, there is the less costly costume jewellery, made from lower value materials and mass-produced. Other variations include wire sculpture (wrap) jewellery, using anything from base metal wire with rock tumbled stone to precious metals and precious gemstones. From Wikipedia under the

I have been dating this girls for two months now and I am crazy about her. I want to buy her something nice like jewelry, for christmas. By the time christmas comes we will have been dating for four months. If I get her jewelry, what kind should I get her. i cannot decide between a necklace or a ring. is it too early for a ring? thanks. Asked by curious fellow - Wed Oct 22 00:08:21 2008 - - 9 Answers - 7 Comments A. Well, it may be just a little bit early for a ring, but what's most important is the way you feel about her. I think a necklace would probably be the most appropriate and safest bet at this time. The ring can come later! There's always Valentines Day and her birthday down the road. Good luck! Any advice would be great thanks Thanks for all the advice, i really appreciate it. I Like dangling earings because they seem to soften my facial features up a bit. I wound up with my fathers looks somehow. Asked by aquashadowfox - Sun Nov 1 19:35:44 2009 - - 7 Answers - 4 Comments A. The key is to not have too much at the same time 1) for chandelier earrings do a dainty necklace or go bare neck 2) for a statement necklace(a bold necklace) do small studs 3) rings I just wear 3 , if you do a cocktail ring you could wear either a statement necklace or you chandelier earrings 4) huge bangles just do studs and a dainty necklace basically if you showoff one piece mute the rest Answered by xX_ANGIE_ATROPHY_Xx - Sun Nov 1 19:44:10 2009 How can I start an online jewelry business?
Q. I've been making jewelry for a long time. Currently I sell it to friends and family, but have been told many times that I should give online a shot. I have experience designing web pages and would have a lot of fun doing something like that. I just don't know the business side of it, like how to receive payments, do I need a license, and things like that. Also, I have thought about ebay but I'm not sure that it would be a good idea. I put a lot of money and time into my jewelry, and would probably charge more than people would be willing to pay on ebay. I looked up dreamweaver and it's really expensive! What other web design software can I use? Asked by Kate - Wed Jan 31 15:24:18 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. Yes you can! You might not make much profit, but all you can do is try. Start off by buying a website domain try they offer a good price for your own website domain. You can make your websites in dreamweaver and upload them using ws_ftp or you can use a website builder. You should advertise around your town and other areas, put up flyers showing your link to your website. And make sure you learn about web traffic and tags so that search engines can get your web site in their results How to recieve payment from your customers: try using paypal, and have a link to paypal for customers on your site. And no, you don't need a license. Answered by Sammy - Wed Jan 31 15:30:17 2007 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Jewelry" |
